Youth Football and Cheer

Content

Why should my child play youth football? Youth football provides a wide array of advantages for children, promoting not only physical fitness but also essential qualities such as teamwork and discipline. Participation in the sport helps cultivate important life skills, while also enhancing social interactions, boosting self-esteem, and fostering a sense of belonging within the community.

Did the organization change leagues?
Yes, The Pirates have officially transitioned from TCUFL to SJI following extensive discussions and research. This change reflects a strong alignment between SJI and the values and goals of the Pirates, and we are excited about the opportunities it presents. For further details, please reach out to any board member.

Is the new league weighted? Yes, it is considered “Hybrid Weighted” - this is an age-based division with weight restrictions. Hybrid weighted ensures players can compete safely and competitively with players of similar age. “Tackle to Tackle” players are not required to make weight but are ineligible to play in any skilled positions. For complete information, please refer to SJIYFA’s bylaws: SJIYFA-Bylaws.pdf

Will the locations of away games be far? The travel distance will remain similar to that of previous years, with the maximum distance being approximately 45 minutes from Marlton Park. Teams can expect to play 4 to 5 games at home in Marlton Park, while an equal number of games will take place away from home.

What are the coaching requirements? Each coach undergoes a thorough background check, and all coaches must complete the Heads Up Training to ensure safety.

What are the levels? Pee Wee - 75lb (age 5-6; must be 5 as of 12/1 of current season), Freshman - 95lb (age 7-8), Sophomore - 110lb (age 9-10), Junior - 125lb (age 11-12), Senior - Unlimited (age 13-14….CAN turn 15 after October 1st; 7th & 8th grade; no HS players permitted; no reclassed players permitted from outside sending district). Age cutoff for all levels is October 1st. The players' age on October 1st determines what level they play on.

How many coaches per level? Each level currently has a head coach with a minimum of 3 assistants.

Are parents obligated to volunteer? The organization relies on the support of volunteers, and any time you can contribute is greatly appreciated and encouraged. For specific areas where assistance is needed, please do not hesitate to reach out. Contact: John “JC” Noone @ (609) 314-7052 or Bill Reardon @ (610) 675-5115 (leave a message or text) for more information.

What equipment is needed for youth football? The Pirates provide Helmet, shoulder and rib pads, practice and game pants, and mouthguards.  Each player should purchase cleats and water bottle.  Other optional equipment such as gloves, visors, and under garments are not provided.   Each player will need a practice jersey (around 20$) which we will order as an organization during the first week of practice.

How much does it cost?
Our current Fees are $200 per participant.  There is a $25 discount if you register before July 1st.  There is also a discount for each subsequent player in each family.  This price includes a personalized game jersey that is yours to keep.  There is also a mandatory fundraiser for each player. If you elect not to participate in this, there is a $75 "buy out" fee.
